Designed by Philippe Briand and Jean-Marc Piaton, the Sun Odyssey 490 benefits from all the advantages of the line: easy flow of movement on board, comfortable cruising, and clever layouts. This 49ft. sailboat has revolutionized cruising: she is the only sailboat in their category to feature movement about the deck without obstacle. The sidedecks are inclined, sloping down to the cockpit floor, and there is no need to step over the coaming! Life on board has never been so simple and comfortable. |

| Innovation for greater ease and comfort |
| An entirely new and innovative feature - the the tall, protective and extendable coamings. This technological advantage affords greater security and enhanced comfort on board, forming a large and accommodating lounging area and sundeck. Movement about the deck is also facilitated by the separation of the shrouds. The vertical shroud is located on the outside of the hull, and the inner, diagonal shroud is placed inboard for an easy passage forward and a larger genoa. |

| Multiple technical advantages to perfect handling and comfort on board |
| The Sun Odyssey 490 benefits from a lower boom for easier access to the sail and an increased sail area. The jib and mainsheet are led to centralised winches, located near the helm stations, for easy handling from the safety of the cockpit. Rarely has a cockpit table contributed so much to the livability of a boat. The aft end houses controls for lighting and instruments. |
